Iyengar Yoga is one of the many modalities of Yoga, it is based on the teachings of master B.K.S Iyengar and its main objective is to make Yoga approachable to anyone, no matter their difficulties in the practice of physical exercises.
Asanas are taught with great technical accuracy and focusing in alignment. The beginner student reaches more vitality fast while taking the prana (bioenergy, oxygen) flow to his cells awakening corporal conscience and improving his health.
Iyengar Yoga also differs from other modalities by encouraging the use of external materials, called props, during the execution of the asanas as a way to overcome some obstacles. With the use of the props, the method increases the time of the stay in each position, and also the confidence of the student as well as his comprehension about his alignment. It also extends the possibility of movement in the posture and makes possible to enjoy safely postures that are more complex.
Added to that, the focus on physical alignment, technical accuracy and the use of props makes Iyengar Yoga a safe and therapeutic modality that can be practiced by anyone, including people with disabilities and physical problems.
All the perfectionism of the method contributes to the development of a healthy solid body with an stable mind and a collaborative spirit.
